In Search of New Solutions

Skolkovo will host the SIBUR polyolefin R&D centre.

SIBUR's new R&D polyolefin centre will have a total of 5,350 sq. m of space fully equipped for R&D operations. It will be used to develop and test new materials and product solutions, make samples for testing and explore options for improving efficiency of polyolefin processing technology.

The R&D Centre's key task is to boost polyolefin application potential, both in the manufacturing of existing products and the search for new solutions. To this end, samples of developed polypropylene and polyethylene grades will be processed into new final products. This will enable a deeper study of their polymer properties and contribution to the quality of the final product to drive further improvement of SIBUR’s materials.

The R&D Centre will provide SIBUR’s customers with an opportunity to explore advantages of the Company's polymer materials and unique properties of the final products. Its construction is scheduled for completion in 2018.

Sergey Komyshan, SIBUR’s Executive Director, commented: “The project is unique as the Company will be creating polymer grades with new or improved properties and immediately test them, identifying precise processing parameters, added value of each production process and properties of the final product. This will not only help us meet the current needs of our customers, but also offer services for the development of new types of final products based on SIBUR’s polymer solutions.“
