SIBUR goes green

Dmitry Konov has identified areas for partnership with the Skolkovo Foundation’s environmental programme.

Dmitry Konov, Chairman of SIBUR’s Management Board, spoke at an online press conference to launch GreenTech Startup Booster, the Skolkovo Foundation’s environmental programme. SIBUR has become a strategic partner in the programme, which is also supported by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation.

As Russia’s largest polymer producer, SIBUR is keen to see its client’s products contribute to reducing the overall toxic impact on the environment, and seeks to maximise the number of end-of-life products recycled and reused

In his presentation, Dmitry Konov noted that SIBUR, as a strategic partner to the programme and a potential recipient of the technology it develops, is committed to green initiatives across a number of areas.

The first focus area involves projects reducing environmental impact.

The second area is adding to the environmental friendliness of products. As Russia’s largest polymer producer, SIBUR is keen to see its client’s products contribute to reducing the overall toxic impact on the environment, and seeks to maximise the number of end-of-life products recycled and reused.

The third area is reducing carbon footprint. SIBUR is also the largest processor of associated petroleum gas in Russia, which makes it well-positioned to take advantage of any low-carbon and energy-efficient development opportunities.

Another two areas SIBUR is interested in are chemical and mechanical polymer recycling technologies enabling subsequent use in production, as well as the direct use of CO2 in chemical production.

Background:

The GreenTech Startup Booster environmental programme aims to seek out and promote the adoption of innovations for the environment, industrial safety and sustainable development. The programme recruits all kinds of startups, whether at the prototype phase or during commercial production.

The aim is to attract 500 tech startups, with the 30 best candidates progressing to the finals. These startups are invited to join an accelerator programme to support pilot tests and implement projects on-site at the programme’s industrial partners. The overall winners of the GreenTech Startup Booster will be eligible for Skolkovo resident status and a RUB 5 million grant to run a pilot. Detailed information on the project, its key stages and the application procedure is available on the programme’s website at https://greentech.sk.ru/en/ .
