RusVinyl, a joint venture between SIBUR and SolVin producing PVC and caustic soda, together with Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (NNSAGU) launches a project to recycle waste into construction materials.


The joint initiative with the NNSAGU's Department of Building Materials and Technologies will enable recycling of industrial waste (sludge) from salt treatment into a component of mixtures to manufacture masonry units, partition blocks and facing tiles.

First prototypes of sludge-based blocks have already passed laboratory tests that helped study the material's technical properties and develop a production technology. The results will be announced next year. Vladimir Suchkov, Head of the Department of Building Materials and Technologies, confirmed the component was applicable in the construction industry.

The project will enable recycling of industrial waste (sludge) into a component of mixtures to manufacture masonry units.

Its key advantages are availability and reduction of industrial waste. RusVinyl is now looking for partners interested in manufacturing building products from the new material.

“Any modern factory has to put efforts to minimise wastes. And our current goal is to reduce sludge generation to a minimum. I consider this project to have a good potential: due to the recycling new alternative and safe construction components could appear,” commented Guenther Nadolny, RusVinyl CEO.
