SIBEX® – WELCOME!

SIBUR unveils SIBEX® – a range of special polypropylene grades that will enable processing companies to streamline operations, boost financial performance and cut costs.

The domestic market of polymeric materials keeps expanding, with the share of imported products going down to 11% in 2015 from 25–30% in 2011–2012. Both basic grades and complex targeted solutions with specific properties are getting substituted with Russian products, and SIBUR’s SIBEX® range is intended to fill that latter niche.

SIBEX® is an umbrella brand for five special product lines:

• SIBEX® Raffia for film thread, PP bag and big bag solutions;

• SIBEX® Rigid Packaging for rigid polymer packaging solutions made by injection moulding and thermoforming;

• SIBEX® Film for BOPP and CAST film solutions;

• SIBEX® Pipe for polypropylene pipe solutions used for hot and cold water supply, as well as for sewerage;

• SIBEX® Fiber for fibre and nonwoven fabric solutions.

The key advantages of SIBEX® versus imported products are cost and logistics efficiency with a comparable or higher quality and processability. “Processing companies can feel the difference even without upgrading the equipment,” says Ruslan Gazizov, Senior Marketing and Sales Expert at SIBUR’s Basic Polymers Division.

Product testing results support the effectiveness of the new products. For example, the enhanced SIBEX® Raffia materials have been found to boost processing speeds in thread production by up to 15%, while at the same time reducing droplet entrainment. By applying UV stabilisers in the production of a promising PP H034 FF grade (part of the SIBEX® Raffia product line), SIBUR has increased the durability and resistance of threads to environmental factors.

Manufacturers of rigid packaging, as the target audience for the SIBEX® Rigid Packaging product line, find such product properties as rigidity, shine and improved transparency particularly valuable. The main effect of using SIBEX® Rigid Packaging is in increased rigidity of an end product (for example, disposable cups or containers), which makes it possible to make its walls thinner and, therefore, the product itself lighter by 3–7% without compromising its durability. SIBEX® Rigid Packaging also increases transparency of the end products, which makes them stand out from competition. In addition, Q1 2017 will see completion of development of a special ultra transparent SIBEX® solution for the thermoforming segment, which will enable packaging manufacturers to use this product as a substitution of more costly PET and polystyrene.

Tangible results were achieved in designing the SIBEX® Pipe product line intended to produce various types of piping. These materials boost efficiency of processing equipment by up to 30% owing to an improved melt flow rate (MFR), a critical indicator helping to significantly reduce reject rates and the number of items damaged during transportation.

Safety is becoming one of the key decisive factors influencing end user’s choice. In addition to better performance, SIBEX® materials make sure that processing companies comply with the current product safety requirements. For example, the portfolio of SIBEX® Rigid Packaging products already offers solutions that meet the prospective EU safety requirements for phthalate-free polymer packaging. “The introduction of SIBEX® phthalate-free solutions is a huge effort which is ultimately intended to drive the competitive advantage of Russian packaging manufacturers in both the domestic and overseas markets”, says Valery Panarin, Senior Product Marketing Expert at SIBUR’s Basic Polymers Division.
