Never stop learning

SIBUR becomes partner of a professional development course at the Russian University of Transport (MIIT).

The course focuses on the application of modern geosynthetics and composites in transport infrastructure construction and is intended for experts from specialist design companies. Other course partners include Polymers and Composites Manufacturers Association and Knauf Penoplast. For the university, this is the first project of the kind, while for its partners, it offers an opportunity to educate industry professionals on proper polymer application and engrain positive practices of using cutting-edge technologies.

The course kicked off on 19 September: at the first workshop, the audience got to know about the application and specifications of geosynthetics and studied the samples of Canvalan, a non-woven geosynthetic fabric manufactured by SIBUR. Knauf Penoplast delivered a presentation on the use of expandable polystyrene blocks (EPB) as lightweight fills for road embankments. Also, the presentation described the first pilot EPB project in St Petersburg.

The curriculum was approved by the Russian Ministry of Transport. The course will run each month for top- and middle-ranking designers and construction workers from RZD, Rosavtodor and other transport companies engaged in infrastructure projects. To enrol, companies have to set up a group of students and send them to the MIIT’s professional development school.

The next session supported by SIBUR will be held for RZD’s designers on 18 October on MIIT premises.
