Switching to green fuel

SIBUR and Gazprom sign an agreement on cooperation in the use of natural gas as a motor fuel.

According to the agreement, SIBUR and its transportation contractors will think of increasing the number of vehicles running on natural gas. The document was signed on the margins of the St Petersburg Economic Forum by Mikhail Karisalov, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of SIBUR, and Vitaly Markelov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee.

Natural gas is one of the most eco-friendly and clean fuels, and its use will help reduce the negative impact on the environment.

The parties will look into the options of using Gazprom's natural gas fuelling stations to refuel vehicles and other machinery running on natural gas and servicing SIBUR's facilities. Additionally, the parties will consider joint efforts to promote this fuel.

Natural gas is one of the safest flammable substances. Its use as a motor fuel extends the engine’s service life thanks to reduced friction in the cylinder block, and decreases noise (and hence noise pollution, which is now a real problem in big cities). Converting engines to gas does not require modifications in vehicle design and leaves open the possibility of using both petrol and natural gas as fuel. Most importantly, natural gas is one of the most eco-friendly and clean fuels, and its use will help reduce the negative impact on the environment.

Mikhail Karisalov, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of SIBUR, and Vitaly Markelov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee.

“The use of natural gas as a motor fuel reduces the carbon footprint of motor vehicles. For this reason, our joint initiatives with Gazprom will contribute to improving the environment in the regions of SIBUR's operation,” said Mikhail Karisalov.
