New ideas and projects

SIBUR and Gazpromneft-BM seek to expand the use of SBS polymers in road construction.

Representatives of the two companies held an R&D meeting at the Science and Technology Centre of the Ryazan Bitumen Binders Plant owned by Gazpromneft-Bitumen Materials (Gazpromneft-BM).

Gazpromneft-Bitumen Materials is a Gazprom Neft subsidiary established in 2014.

For SIBUR, Gazpromneft-BM is a key consumer of SBS polymers in the road construction segment. The parties reviewed the 2018 results, shared ideas on building up their product portfolios, discussed new projects, and agreed to hold R&D training seminars.

Gazpromneft-BM representatives noted that the customisation of the SBS L linear grade polymer helped optimise the production and quality management processes of the polymer-bitumen binders (PBBs) across the company’s production facilities. Cooperation in this area will be continued through the Smart Process Engineer project. The project aims to use artificial intelligence in gathering statistical data and analysing parameters of bitumen and SBS polymers to streamline the PBB manufacturing life cycle.

Gazprom Neft was among the first PBB manufacturers in Russia, currently producing over 50 PBB varieties.

“We are always open to dialogue with our key partner as we seek to expand cooperation both in trade and production. In this sense, we are pleased to note that our joint projects are being consistently and successfully implemented”, Tatiana Gershfus, Head of SBS at SIBUR’s Plastics, Elastomers and Organic Synthesis Division, summed up.

Alexey Korotkov, Head of Technology Development and Quality Control at Gazpromneft-BM, Head of Science and Technology Centre, said: “Both SIBUR and Gazpromneft-BM are focused on expanding our product portfolios. I am confident that our partnership record, successful implementation of joint projects and future cooperation plans will produce cutting-edge solutions for the road industry and other application areas for binders and polymers”.
