Road 2018

Representatives of the government, industry associations and the business community gathered at the Road 2018 exhibition to discuss the challenges of the road construction industry.

The three-day event took place in mid-October and was hosted by Kazan (previous exhibitions were held in Moscow). Road 2018 (Doroga 2018) was the inaugural event at the brand new Kazan Expo exhibition centre.

Road 2018 in numbers:

15,000 sq m
6,300 participants
200 exhibitors

The exhibition featured an eventful business programme that included round tables, seminars, discussions and conferences. The attendees from the scientific community took an active part in discussing the issues and challenges of the industry, sharing their latest findings and experience. The Federal Road Agency (Rosavtodor) representatives, delegates from various regions and members of the business community discussed the financing mechanisms for road development, localisation of road construction equipment manufacturing in Russia, digitalisation of the industry and development of the necessary regulatory documents setting out requirements on materials.

The Safe and High-Quality Roads national project was the centrepiece of the exhibition. Its implementation is supported by the industry's main development trends, such as growth of regional road network, increased pavement service life between repairs, and the use of innovative materials and technologies.

The expo focused on new road construction technologies, industry digitisation and security.

As usual, SIBUR had a stand at the event showcasing its products, most prominently – styrene-butadiene thermoplastic elastomers (SBS polymers), which are used in production of polymer-bitumen binders that improve road pavement quality. Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) increase the time between repairs from 3–4 to 7–10 years by enhancing durability of pavement and its resistance to temperature stress and water exposure.

Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Igor Levitin, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation, and the representatives of the Russian Ministry of Transport and the Federal Road Agency all stopped by the Company’s stand. During the exhibition, SIBUR also negotiated with several key partners (Gazpromneft Bitumen Materials, Rosneft Bitumen, Lukoil, TechnoNICOL), discussing, among other things, wider application of the Company's products across different geographies.

“This is a major event in the world of road construction that each year gathers many industry representatives and government officials. For SIBUR, this is an opportunity to not only meet its strategic partners and discuss long-term cooperation prospects, but also to support the development of the road industry,” says Alexander Sheyko, Chief SBS Expert.
