Life in plastic

SIBUR helps shoot a documentary for Channel One.

In late August, Channel One presented Life in Plastic, a documentary created with SIBUR’s direct assistance. The film spotlights the prospects of polymer application. Andrei Borisenko, a Russian cosmonaut, Dmitry Kobylkin, Minister of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, Prof. Leo Bokeria, Russia’s Chief Heart Surgeon, as well as SIBUR employees and researches from the National University of Science and Technology (MISIS) and Lomonosov Moscow State University – all contributed to this documentary.

Plastic is the most vital and highly sought-after material of the modern civilisation. Compared to other materials, its consumption is soaring. Producing plastic requires many times less water and energy than producing other materials. Plastic is used universally – from utility pipes to bone implants – and has virtually no limits. However, the more plastic we consume, the more plastic waste we produce.

The authors of the documentary bust myths and explain how we can make a difference in the volumes of waste by reasonable consumption and separate waste collection. Besides, recycling can help build a closed-loop production of plastic items, ideally making waste a phenomenon of the past.
