Those named on the award are Farid Minigulov, General Director of Kazanorgsintez; Rinat Zaripov and Fanis Kalimullin, Deputy General Directors; Prof Damir Safin, Doctor of Engineering, Deputy Chief Engineer for Science and Development; Andrey Presnyakov, Director of the Polycarbonate Plant; Aidar Valitov, Chief Engineer at the Polycarbonate Plant; and Albert Shigabutdinov, Principal Development Adviser to Director General at TAIF.

Polycarbonates are chemically stable and are heat- and impact-resistant, which makes them highly effective in a wide range of applications in the electrical engineering and automotive industries, the household appliances sector, construction, and agriculture. Polycarbonates use ethylene oxide, carbon dioxide, and bisphenol A as raw materials, and there are two production methods: with and without phosgene. The former poses a hazard to people and the environment, while the latter is completely eco-friendly and is the one used at Kazanorgsintez. Production boasts net zero carbon dioxide emissions, and all by-products are reused. Kazanorgsintez is Russia and the CIS’ only manufacturer of polycarbonates. The market for these polymers is booming, with Russian and global demand growing every year. In Russia, total polycarbonate consumption was close to 100,000 tonnes in 2020, and the world is projected to need over 6 million tonnes in the near term.
