DOTP: an important start

SIBUR launched the production of DOTP, an eco-friendly plasticiser for the construction industry.

In late May, SIBUR's Perm site cut the ribbon on the new dioctyl terephthalate plasticiser (DOTP) facility. The event was attended by Dmitry Kozak, Deputy Prime Minister, Maxim Reshetnikov, Perm Territory Governor, Dmitry Konov, Chairman of the Management Board at SIBUR Holding, Viktor Evtukhov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, and Pavel Sorokin, Deputy Minister of Energy, as well as local authorities and SIBUR’s clients and partners. After the launch ceremony at SIBUR-Khimprom, Dmitry Kozak hosted a meeting on development of the petrochemical industry.

SIBUR’s Perm-based facility is Europe’s largest production site of its kind. Investment in the project totalled RUB 6.95 bn.

“SIBUR is a leader in chemicals and petrochemicals and is committed to exploring new technologies set to underpin the offering of competitive Russian products commercially successful around the world.

Going forward, we will extend our support to such initiatives and new projects, in particular via the International Cooperation and Exports national programme that seeks to make Russian products more competitive and facilitate introduction of new technologies,” said Dmitry Kozak, Deputy Prime Minister.

“A draft law to regulate special investment contracts for new technologies envisaging extensive preferences and subsidies has already been submitted to the State Duma. It is meant to support R&D activities bound to reshape our industry landscape.”

“It is of utmost importance for the region that the project is being implemented under a special investment contract signed in 2017 and enjoys local backing,” commented Maxim Reshetnikov, Perm Territory Governor. “All obligations have been timely fulfilled, with RUB 7 bn of investments bringing new products to the Russian market that have a tremendous export potential. The project also helped create new jobs relying primarily on equipment produced in Russia.”

Unlike phthalate plasticisers, DOTP is eco-friendly.

“DOTP is a new product for the Russian market. Along with being one of the key import substitution projects in Russia’s petrochemical industry, the Perm facility is also going to drive the growth of the country's non-commodity exports.

Finally, DOTP is an eco-friendly product, which is very much in line with the industry trends,” noted Dmitry Konov, Chairman of the Management Board at SIBUR Holding.
