A green packaging solution

SIBUR, O3 and Jokey launch a production line that will use packaging containing recycled plastic waste.

SIBUR PolyLab, a research centre and developer of polymer recycling solutions, has completed the first stage of testing of plastic packaging containing post-consumer recycled plastic waste (PCR material) using its unique, proprietary technology. PCR material will be used by Jokey, the world’s leading manufacturer of plastic containers, for products by O3, a manufacturer of protective materials, paint coatings, disinfectants and detergents.

In 2021, all of O3’s architectural coatings and anti-viral paints under the TRIOPRO™ and M2 brands will be produced in Jokey packaging, containing recycled plastic waste and manufactured using SIBUR PolyLab’s raw materials and technology

In 2021, all of O3’s architectural coatings and anti-viral paints under the TRIOPRO™ and M2 brands will be produced in Jokey packaging, containing recycled plastic waste and manufactured using SIBUR PolyLab’s raw materials and technology. This partnership will be Russia’s first case of using recycled post-consumer waste in packaging production.

“As part of its long-term development strategy and carbon footprint reduction commitment, since 2020, O3 has been producing water-based materials in recycled plastic packaging only,” says Irina Garustovich, General Director, O3-COATINGS. “The collaboration between O3 and SIBUR PolyLab has enabled the development of a truly green solution – recyclable packaging containing PCR material.”

“The development of R&D solutions to recycle and reuse polymer waste is a key part of SIBUR’s 2025 Sustainability Strategy,” notes Konstantin Vernigorov, CEO of SIBUR PolyLab. “The joint initiative with O3 and Jokey to produce packaging containing Russian PCR material is an important step towards solving the plastic waste problem in the country and is the first such case in Russia. We plan to further develop our own green solutions and expand cooperation with partners who share our circular economy commitment.”

Batch production will start in June 2021. Going forward, the companies consider developing recycled plastic containers for disinfectant and detergent packaging, and installing packaging collection boxes across retail chains and hypermarkets.
